Tokudo, receiving Precepts
The phrase “Tokudo” literally means “receiving the precepts”. Tokudo enriches and nourishes both the recipient and our Sangha. Undertaking Tokudo is a great gift to the community and a cause for great celebration.
The seven principles of Sotō Zen training:
- Deepening understanding through personal effort,
- Working with a teacher,
- Studying Buddhist literature, and
- Sustained effort.
Shukke-tokodu, the Zen Disciple precepts
